JEEP AVENGER SUMMIT
The Jeep of the future is here!
We all love Jeeps for their rugged looks and go-anywhere ability, but this is 2023 and manufacturers need to be a little more eco-conscious these days, so Jeep has created a small EV that lets you have all the rugged good looks but all the eco benefits!
The Avenger is a 4-metre long mini-SUV that looks every bit like a Grand Cherokee that has shrunk in the wash – you get the same 7-bar grille (though this time it’s fake, being an EV), chunky wheelarches and raised-up suspension, with black cladding around the bottom to protect the bodywork.
But underneath sits the powertrain of the future – a 152bhp electric motor powering the front wheels, powered by a 51kWh usable battery which will achieve 248miles of range on the WLTP test cycle. That’s more than enough range for most people’s daily journeys.
The interior is great too, with a simple yet stylish dashboard, enough buttons for the major controls and a big infotainment touchscreen display.
FORD FOCUS ST
The Ford Focus ST has always been one of the best handling hot hatches on the market, with subtle, understated looks hiding seriously impressive hardware underneath.
Featuring the 2.3 litre Ecoboost turbocharged four-cylinder engine putting out 276bhp and 420Nm of torque, this ST has the power to go head to head with the Megane RS and i30N Performance. This is a far more developed engine from the one that used to be in the Focus RS, now featuring anti-lag technology developed for the Ford GT to ensure immediate power delivery in Sport and Track modes.
The Focus ST is still FWD and sends the power via a 6-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching or an optional 7-speed automatic. It does handle like a proper Ford hot hatch - agile, involving and dynamically adept.
In 2022, the ST got a mild facelift, with new headlights, a new front bumper with a larger honeycomb grille, and new rear lights and bumper, along with the choice of the new ST headline colour - Mean Green
The most significant changes come inside, though, where a 13.2-inch infotainment screen now sits atop the centre of the dash, which uses Ford's latest Sync4 system. Ford Performance also designs a new sports seat with red and white stitching and a more stylish design and stitch pattern.
