A dad-of-two from Haverhill couldn’t believe his luck after winning a new car and cash prize worth nearly £40,000 - but admits he may not keep the car. Ben Albon thought it was a wind up when he received a video call from presenter Christian Williams, of online competition specialist BOTB , who surprised him with a Volkswagen Golf GTD worth £37,120 alongside a £2,000 cash prize.
“I was in a meeting when Christian first called me and I didn't know whose number it was,” said the Daily Draws Competition winner.
“He then messaged me and I started to get a feeling of nervous excitement.
“When I eventually spoke to him and he told me I had won, I just kept thinking is it real and honestly thought it was a wind up.”
The Volkswagen Golf GTD features an i4 Turbo diesel engine, 197bhp and top speed of 152mph. But the 35-year-old said he was considering taking the cash alternative to put towards a new campervan.
“I love the car, but the cash provides me and my family with so many opportunities, it’s too good to turn down.
“We’re looking to move house and we would love to buy a campervan.
“Me and my partner like hiking, and we’ve got two boys and would love to take them to the Yorkshire Dales as well as somewhere like France,” added Ben, who works for a fire protection company. Christian said: “Ben was clearly very excited to see me on the phone even though he couldn’t quite believe I was calling him.
“But I only ring people to give them good news!
“It’s an amazing car which comes with a fantastic bit of kit but I can also see why the cash alternative is very appealing to him and his family, and it sounds like they’ve already got a good idea of how they want to spend it.”
BOTB hands over the keys to a dream car each week as well as a lifestyle prize. The competition experts recently handed over its biggest ever competition giveaway, with pizza delivery driver Marius Preda from Tamworth bagging a whopping £500,000 cash prize. It currently has Instant Win prizes up for grabs, with 5,000 to 15,000 winners every day. Founded by William Hindmarch in 1999, it has given away £64m worth of cars so far to winners from across the globe.
