Buxton musician wins £4,000 piano for his hard-up brother

Feb 2020

A big-hearted Buxton musician has made his brother’s year by winning him a £4,000 piano after his hard-up sibling had to sell his own.

Chris Hamlet’s brother Matt – who plays with him in a band – had reluctantly sold his pride and joy after hitting upon hard times.

However top man Chris, who plays bass, had secretly entered a competition on Matt’s behalf – winning a Yamaha NUX1 Piano played by the likes of acclaimed pianist Artur Pizzarro and pop sensation Emeli Sandé.

Chris was on his commute to work when he received the call from Christian Williams of lifestyle competition company BOTB – telling him he had won the top of the range instrument.

Chris, who described the win as ‘beautiful’ and ‘amazing’, then revealed he was entering on behalf of his brother Matt.

He said: “We’re in a band - I play the bass - but my brother had to sell his piano unfortunately and I’ve been wanting to get him a new one for a while - this is really amazing.

“He’s been struggling for a bit and I just wanted to get him something nice.

“He’s gonna be over the moon he really is.”

BOTB’s Christian Williams said: “We love surprising people and making their dreams come true but this was something else.

“I really loved that he’d entered solely for his brother – it was a real heart warmer – we hope Matt and Chris enjoy making music together once again.”
