The Civic Type-R is back!
There’s a huge amount of choice in the hot hatch market, but for the keen driver, the true enthusiast, there’s always been one standout – the Civic Type-R. It has always been just about the best all-round FWD hot hatch money can buy, but previously, many were put off by the outlandish styling.
So this time, Honda has toned down the styling a little, but don’t for one second think the Civic Type-R has gone soft – there’s still a deep front splitter, aggressive front bumper, vented bonnet, triple exhaust, 19-inch alloys and a massive rear wing. This will never be mistaken for a normal Civic!
The mechanical aspects haven’t gone soft either – the familiar 2.0 litre turbocharged 4cyl engine now produces 325bhp and 420Nm of torque, which means the 0-62mph sprint takes just 5.4 seconds on the way to the 171mph top speed.
That power still goes to the front wheels via a super-slick 6spd manual gearbox, which in the previous model was the best gearchange of any car, ever. Pretty good, then!
The interior has had a serious glow-up, too, with the gorgeous alloy gear and bright red sports seats joined now by a much more modern, simplified dash, which really takes the quality up a notch
The best hot hatch has just got even better and you could win one in the BOTB 48hr Lifestyle Competition!
