Welcome to the future of the Cupra brand – the Born!

Look at the side profile and you may think the Born looks familiar and you’d be right – it’s based on the same bodyshell as the VW ID.3 (this is something we’ll be seeing more of in the EV era) but as with most Cupra models, it’s a little more dynamic, a little more edgy and a whole lot more fun than its VW counterpart.

This Born V2 has the 77kWh battery and a single rear motor, making it RWD and capable of 342 miles range on a single charge. It also has 228bhp though, so you can sprint to 62mph in just 7.0 seconds. It can also charge at up to 175kW DC, adding 200 miles in under half an hour.

The styling is unashamedly sporty, with a low, beak-like front end featuring angular LED headlights and a lower grille with the surround in copper bronze to match the Cupra badging. There are a set of 19-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels and deep side skirts down the sides, then at the rear there’s a subtle roof spoiler, lower diffuser and a full width light bar and deeply sculpted bootlid. It really is a great looking car that turns heads wherever it parks.

Inside is the biggest difference from the ID.3, with a really sporty look to the dash, copper bronze accent trim all over and a set of comfy yet supportive sports seats. Being the V2 model it comes with loads of standard spec, like Augmented Reality Head-Up Display, adaptive cruise control, wireless CarPlay, 12-inch central infotainment screen, keyless go central locking, rear view camera and more.

This is one of the best driving new EVs and arguably the best looking. Bring on the EV hot hatch era!
