McLaren has changed gears and shifted from the same V8 engine in previous models for this new era of powertrains. Sitting behind the driver is a 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 engine putting out 577bhp – impressive numbers; but this V6 is linked with an electric motor and small battery as well, and combined they put out a considerable 691bhp and 720Nm of torque, while only adding 160kg to the already featherweight Artura.
This means 0-62mph takes 3.0 seconds, and it can hit 124mph in a staggering 8.3 seconds, topping out at 205mph – and this is now the base model McLaren. Visually, the Artura takes the styling seen on the 570S and moves it on, with hints of the limited-run Elva and the 720S. It is a beautiful, sleek, classy design with a measure of aggression.
The interior is also pure McLaren, with a central portrait infotainment screen, a minimalist style, and nice colour flourishes in the cabin.
This new McLaren may not have a V8, but it will outperform most cars on the road while also being able to cruise around in EV mode. This could be the best all-around supercar on sale, and you could win one right in the BOTB Dream Car Competition!
