Weymouth man wins cash prize in BOTB Rolex competition {{favouriteCount}}
A Weymouth care home worker has won a major cash prize in an online competition.
David Anderson, ‘could not believe his luck’ after entering a prize draw to win a luxury watch - a £13,000 Rolex GMT-Master II Batman.
He ended up choosing the cash prize alternative rather than the Rolex, which is a popular choice among celebrities, including actors Tom Holland and Ben Affleck.
The contest was organised by online car competition company Best of the Best (BOTB).
After initially receiving an email notification to say he was a winner, Mr Anderson was at work when he received a FaceTime video call from BOTB presenter Christian Williams, who wanted to find out how he reacted to his big win.
The 58-year-old said: “It was mad seeing Christian on the call and I cannot believe I have won as I never win anything.
“It’s like winning the lottery, you don’t think it’s ever going to happen to you. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to be in it to win it.”
Because David has been promising his family a dream holiday to Disneyland, he decided to take the cash alternative - the approximate value of the Rolex - instead of the watch itself.
The father-of-three said: “My kids were over the moon, and all started singing when I told them.
“We’ve been talking about Disneyland for about four years but haven’t been able to afford it.
“Whenever I have saved some money, something has broken which has needed replacing.
“Once I get this money I am going to book the trip straight away.”
BOTB presenter, Christian Williams said: “Working in a care home can be stressful, but I am sure David was on cloud nine for the rest of his shift.
“It is a fantastic prize and a lovely looking watch, but it sounds like he is opting for the cash alternative.
“David has been promising his kids a Disney holiday for years, and he can finally give them the trip of a lifetime.”
Alongside presenting for BOTB, Mr Williams also works as a presenter for Virgin Radio.
