A Rhondda man had the shock of his life working at the checkout in his local SPAR when a surprise customer gave him a £34,000 car and £20,000 cash.

Shop worker Bryan Grovenor, from Pentre, instantly recognised BOTB presenter Christian Williams when he entered the shop.

The 62-year-old works Tuesday mornings on the checkout in Ton Pentre SPAR and also as a cleaner in his local Asda in the afternoons.

And it was a normal working day for Bryan until the online competition company presented him with the keys to a £34,000 Ford Focus ST and a boot loaded with £20,000.

After managing to get someone to cover the till while Bryan and Christian set off, he said: "This has got to be the best day of my life... I just never thought I'd win a car! This is my dream!

"I'm lost for words! This has completely changed my life!"

Brya, who currently drives a Ford Focus with a 2014 plate, plans to take his partner on a cruise with the winnings. Speaking of the day, he said: “I couldn’t believe it when Christian walked into the shop but I knew who he was straight away.

“My current car’s MOT is due up at the end of the month and I think I will be telling the garage that it’s the last MOT while I own it.

“The new car is very much the perfect choice for me and I am so looking forward to driving it.”

BOTB hands over the keys to two cars each week as well as a lifestyle prize. Other recent winners have bagged £15,000 cash, a holiday to Las Vegas and a home music studio.

BOTB was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away more than £44m worth of cars so far. BOTB’s Christian, who surprises winners every week, was delighted to surprise Bryan with the prize.

“I am delighted for Bryan that he will be able to drive a brand new Ford Focus, it is a really nice car and I am sure he will enjoy driving it,” said Christian.
