Ledbury man wins £28,000 car in competition but can't drive {{favouriteCount}} Quantity of Likes

A supermarket worker has won a £28,000 car in an online competition, but there's just one issue - he cannot drive.

Andrew Davies, a supermarket worker from Ledbury, won a Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport while he was on a night shift.

Mr Davies, 43, was playing BOTB’s Instant Wins Competition, as he has been doing for years.

Despite not being able to drive, he managed to win the car.

He said: "When it popped up to say I won I couldn’t believe it, and couldn't sleep that night when I got home.

“I’ve been playing BOTB for a few years now and a previous manager of mine managed to win with BOTB, which gave me confidence that one day it would be my day.”

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is renowned for its impressive performance and handling, however, since Mr Davies hasn’t passed his driving test yet, he’s contemplating on whether to take the cash alternative instead.

Mr Davies said: "I currently don’t drive, so the money would mean more to me right now.

"I might treat my parents to a cruise because they’ve been good to me my whole life, and it’s a nice way to give something back.

"I also want to kit out my house with a few new bits such as a cooker and TV".

BOTB presenter Christian Williams, who revealed the big news to Mr Davies, said: "Andrew was clearly still in a lot of shock when I phoned him and I hope he has had a chance to catch up on some sleep following his exciting win.

"It’s a stunning car which would be a lot of fun to drive, but in his circumstances, I can understand why the cash alternative is very tempting."

He added: "Andrew wants to give back to his parents, so it sounds like he’s going to use the cash to send them on a stunning cruise, which is a lovely gesture, and I’m sure he's going to be very popular with them."

BOTB, which was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999, gives away a dream car and a lifestyle prize each week in its competitions.
