A Glasgow man won a trip of a lifetime to the USA with online competition following a tough year.
Richard Kernahan, who recently lost his father to cancer, was at work when he was told he had bagged a road trip worth £10,000 as well as £5,000 in cash. The 44-year-old, from Cessnock, received a video call from Best of the Best PLC (BOTB) presenter Christian Williams who surprised him with the news he was a Midweek Lifestyle Competition winner. Richard, who works as an Internet service provider, correctly identified that Panama was not an island from a choice of nine options to win the competition.
“I was stunned and thought it was a joke”, Richard admitted.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve recently lost my dad to cancer, so this is the first bit of good news I have had.”
The trip includes a drive down the legendary Route 66 and visits to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Richard said he is planning to take the cash alternative and book a different holiday later in the year. Richard said it was 'the first bit of good news' he had in a while. (Image: Sourced)
“Me and my partner thought driving around the USA for two weeks might be a bit much for us, so we are planning to take the cash alternative and book a holiday for July or September.
“I’ve not been on holiday for a good few years now, so it will be nice to use the money to get away.”
Christian said: “Richard has had a tough year so far, so this couldn't have come at a better time. I’m sure he will be able to use the money on a fabulous family holiday.” BOTB hands over the keys to a stunning dream car each week as well as a lifestyle prize. Winners have bagged Rolex watches, holidays and motorbikes in recent months. The company, listed on the stock market, was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away more than £52m-worth of cars so far.
