A scaffolder from Bristol has turned down a £64,000 car in exchange for the cash alternative to help pay off his mum’s mortgage. Rhys Johns won an Audi RS3 Saloon courtesy of online competition firm BOTB, but has decided to swap it for the cash alternative to help out his mum, Tracey. BOTB presenter Christian Williams video-called the Midweek Lifestyle Competition Winner to surprise him with the news he had won the stunning car alongside £2,000 in cash - meaning a total prize worth a whopping £66,000. “I was speechless when Christian called me,” said 21-year-old Rhys. “I had to go back to work, but winning the competition was all I could think about. “I currently have a company vehicle and a new car would have been very nice, but the money means more to us as a family and I want to help pay off my mum’s mortgage.

“I showed my mum the video of when I found out and things got quite emotional. She is obviously delighted.” Rhys also plans to use some of the money to go on holiday in the new year. “I haven’t been away at all this year and would love to go backpacking in Europe or somewhere like Thailand,” he said. “I don’t know much about this car, but I’ve always wanted an Audi. I’m more into my classic cars though."

Christian said: “The RS3 Saloon is a fantastic car, but I totally understand why Rhys has decided to take the cash alternative. “To offer to help pay off his mum’s mortgage is a lovely gesture and I am sure she is over the moon.”

BOTB hands over the keys to a stunning dream car each week as well as a lifestyle prize. Winners have bagged Rolex watches, holidays and motorbikes in recent months.
